Before, I do the timing, could someone tell me how I initially get the right position on the timing chain for a Distributor on a 99 Dominator please.
Not crucial.

How i do it , Set the crank…
How i do it , Set the crank at TDC. Tune the distributor shaft , until the rota alines with one of the cap contacts (point fully open. ) At this point aline the sprocket hole with the shaft . Then drive in the new roll pin. When happy you can time the ignition Find which cylinder is on firing stroke. The cap contact which you worked off is the plug lead to that cylinder . Some on this site may and will contradict YOU may need to tweak the chain adjustment that's another story
PS have the low tension lead contact a 3 o clock

The chain position is not crucial. In the diagram above the split pin needs 'spreading'. The original set up had a 1/8 parallel pin to fit the sprocket to the parallel shaft of the 18D2. Ignition timing is set as the body of the 18D2 (with points plate) is free to rotate.
