Hi,
This is a basic beginners question I guess, but I will soon be the owner of a 1971 Commando Roadster. Chances are it might be an American model. Apart from higher handlebars and possibly a smaller tank, are there any other difference to be aware of? Bolt threads perhaps or carbs...
I don't particularly like the US handlebars and will possibly replace with flatter ones. I guess that is a pretty straight-forward job and that it is easy to find original UK-style bars.
Thanks for any info.
Graeme

My reimported Combat didn't come with a centre stand whether that is what one should expect I have no idea.
One other minor difference is the side stand came without the rubber cushion location pin or rubber thus allowing metal to metal contact when retracting it. Since been addressed!
A number of "easy rider" attachments had been added by previous owners I suspect but otherwise all looked to be the same as a "home" model.
All of the nuts and bolts are what you would expect with no surprises to recall, so pretty much standard fare.
A chap in America put together a list of fastener sizes for the Commando its incomplete but worth noting just in case.

Get yourself a set of thread gauges saves a lot of heartache to be sure.
Keep a smile on your face and enjoy the experience of fettling a "Norton".
