600 Dominator 99 Alloy head 1958
I just need a bit of re assurance with regards to the correct alignment for the rocker shaft (part number 21225). The ground flat part of the partial length should it be facing inwards to the centre of the head or rotated 180 degrees so it is facing outwards. What is the purpose of this flat, is it to purge the rocker arms with oil?
Also I have conflicting advice on the alternator, should the 3 output wires be facing inwards to the inner cover where it goes through a hole to the outside of the casing. Or should the output wires be facing the outside of the engine? Regards

Yes you're correct David - the flats are to assist oil flow at the rockers and the flats should face away from each other (ie toward the covers) if you're using the rocker oil feed from the scavenge side of the oil pump on a banjo that mounts at the oil tank return. The Thackery washer is at the outside and there may be shim washers on the inside to position the rocker centrally on the valve-stem tip. The alternator usually has the wires at the outside of the mounting bracket but it doesn't matter if your wires are shorter and you get a better flow of the wires to the exit hole in the inner chain-case. The device gives ac so its direction of rotation is irrelevant . Ensure that the rectifier is operating properly. Cheers, howard
