1974 Norton 850 JPS Commando

Forums

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this issue, which is perplexing me!

I have a couple of JPS Nortons in the shed. Problem is they both have different fairings and different exhaust mounts.

Is one a replica or did the Norton factory produce two types of fairing? I have collected a decent quantity of period photos and magazines which feature the JPS, but I can't see a consensus there either!

Photos of the two are available in the link below:

Both have frame numbers that indicate a Commando MkIIa. I can provide those numbers if needs be.

Regards,

Jerome

Your JPS2 has the correct mounts for the annular discharge silencer fitted to the JPS. They were all Mk11As, weren't they ? JPS1 has most of the mounts for the earlier reverse cone silencer.

Do both bikes have the extended fuel tank under the shroud ? Many replicas have simply the Roadster tank.

In addition to original fairings, there have been post-production versions from Sprint (using the original moulds I believe) and Curley (Specialist Mouldings ?). The Curley versions never looked quite right to my eyes.
