Just read my very late copy of RH magazine and my hopes and heart have been boosted. In the letters section there is a request to celebrate the " 75th Anniversary of the Featherded-framed Manx Nortons" next year. What a great idea. Manx Nortons and other Racing sleds seem to be the poor relations in the NOC and indeed RH these days. Umpteen articles on riding along every nook and cranny, one can think of, on all manner of road bikes is fine for some but just occasionally the 'racers' deserve an outing. I will support the occasion whole-heartedly and will certainly hope to dust the cobwebs of my ex-Surtees 59er and hear it running with others. It would be nice to have a Special Celebration where bikes can be ridden but I realise that's too much to expect ? So a combination with another event will be good. So let's get cracking and find 75 (or more) genuine Featherbed Manxes to make some serious din, next year, Cheers, howard

Sorry Paul but I certainly…
Sorry Paul but I certainly didn't see that letter on the Forums and I do try to keep up to date with what's happening on the Norton front. regards, Howard

new Manxes
...so how do we incorporate replicas? I think the more the better, especially in terms of the massed sound!

Sounds interesting
Howard, is your -59 Manx a 500 or a 350? Reason I ask is that I have a -59 40M made in a batch for John Surtees. Not his bike, the Geoff Tanner one. I've ridden it since 2018 in Swedish Classic events.

Hi Mike - it's a 500 from…
Hi Mike - it's a 500 from March. A chap I know also has a 59 350 and that came back to UK from his dad in Sweden. Small World. Jan hi - The reason I'm hoping to see Genuine Manxes from Bracebridge St is obvious that the bikes are being celebrated as a Norton product. If all the later copies are turning up ( Molnars, Summerfields, Walmesleys, Works, McIntoshes, Jollies ) then a few hundred could attend and it will imitate a Gold Star Rally. I am pleased that it will not be my decision. Ride safe, Howard

Here's an idea.
I participated in a Montesa Impala anniversary rally years ago in and around Barcelona and during the lunch break, they executed this.
In advance, they'd made a drawing on a scaled map and, using that, placed markings on the ground for bikes to be parked on.

What a splendid arrangement…
What a splendid arrangement Tim. Did they all run as well ? It may be difficult to get as many real Manxes as that but 75 could be possible. I count about 145 But I suspect that not all are Impalas ? Please enlighten us if I'm wrong. Cheers. howard

They were all Impalas Howard…
They were all Impalas Howard. In fact, out of view many more were parked. I still have the participation tag on the Impala and my number was 337. It's a bit of a cult bike over there with pretty active enthusiasts. And they all ran too. In fact, those 175's and a handful of 250's were pretty fast. I remember the whole group overtaking an R6 in a couple of hairpins. They certainly knew how to find the throttle!
With eight Manxes, a 7 and a 5 will be possible, but I do like the fact those Spanish (sorry, Catalans) actually used a font and played with design. Who knows what will be possible! You might be able to make the Manx three legged logo too...
Cheers,
Tim

Here is one from IOM
Celebrating 60 years of the Mini at Jurby museum. Fabulous collection of vehicles of all types including a motorcycle from every year of the TT last time I was there. Photo taken by one of the entrants with a drone.

Hi Howard - that letter in Roadholder was also on the forum some weeks ago.
The Directors have started thinking about the 75th anniversary of the featherbed frame and specifically how Geoff Duke won the senior TT that year with a featherbed Manx Norton.
We are currently coming up with ideas on how to really recognise this 75th anniversary and what we will do in 2025.
So - we are on it and I'll share outcomes of our plans when ready.
Thanks - Paul.
