LED Bulbs

Forums

I've just fitted LED bulbs in the headlight, pilot light and instrument lights on my Mk3 to reduce load as I like to ride with the headlight on.

All work OK and I am very pleased with them except for a strange consequence.

Now when I apply the brake (front or back), the pilot light and instrument lights also flash on. And if I have the headlight switched on, then the headlight also flashes too.

Everything works as it should normally, and there is no issue if I swap the bulbs back to standard.

So it appears to be some electrical surge that only occurs with LED bulbs - any ideas?

The first thing to improve is the earthing throughout the bike. The original Earth wire is of course the RED wire in the loom, it might be worth while to just install a temporary earth to the wiring within the instrument consul, and also to the rear light .

I presume you also have an LED stop / tail light.

If you look in:-

You will find I covered this earlier this year. I have also attached my original document here in case the link does not work. Let me know if you need anything more.

Thanks for the responses.
I forgot to mention that I also had fitted an LED stop 'n' tail light, and when I swapped it out for a normal bulb, everything was working as it should. So that is the culprit.
I'll try and fit a couple of diodes as per Tony's paper and all should be well.
Thanks again for the help.
