Removing problem exhaust valve

Forums

I'm trying to remove the valves from the head. One exhaust valve came off OK the other won't.
OK you put the valve compressor in place, screw it in, it pushes the collar down, leaving the collets behind and you can remove the collets - that is the theory.
I screw it in the collets are not left behind they go down with the collar and it just gets tighter and tighter.  Having examined the other valve there is no actual ridge to stop the collet following the collar just a gradual taper.  That taper simply pushes the collet tighter and tighter against the collar.   Any suggestions would be welcome.

hello.  with the tool in place try a light tap on the tool where the collar and collets sits that should loosen it up   barry

In each combustion area to hold the valve in place. A short length of conduit or similar and a reasonable weight hammer.  Position the tube on the collar and strike the tube,  this should brake the collet to collar adhesion.  Then revert to the tool.
In my youth it was only necessary to use the tube with a cutout in the side . Support the valve heads with the tennis ball,  press down and fish out the collets with a scribe, then release.

I used a variation in that I put a post in my vice. Sat the valve head on the post. Put a suitable sized socket on top of the valve spring and gave it a good clout with a hammer.  Applying the spring compressor was then successful. Thanks

Screw the valve spring compression tool in just a small amount so the collets if they move with the collar are not sat against the shoulder of the valve stem, then use a sharp seal pick to free them from the collar, once loose carry on as normal and remove them.
