oil filter and chain adjust

Forums

This is regard to my previous topic "Chain Adjustment". So I received the correct aligning [dowel] bolt for the rear wheel to brake hub and believe it or not everything now lines up far happier although still displaced towards the timing side.

Continue to rebuild I would like comments on fitting the detachable oil filter I bought from RGM, does it fit into the feed to the engine?

Many thanks again to those who helped with my "chain Adjustment" topic

Hi,

No it fits in the return line to the tank. The filter restriction is too much for the suction side of the pump. So it filters any crud before it gets back into the tank and keeps the tank cleaner.

Can't give you any advise on fitting to a heavyweight as I have a Navigator, my last Dominator was back in 1963.

Provided you use good oil and change regularly i dont see that the benefits outweigh the disadvantage of reduced access and vulnerable piping./filter. If you have done an extensive (and expensive) mechanical restoration  , perhaps then it may pay off. A few magnets in the system, tank, sump are worth while . My 1960 big ends are still going with no filter.

do you want ideas of where it can be fitted?

Brackets are available from our usual suppliers.  Pipe runs are not exactly tidy.  Mine came from Norvil many years ago, and I had to get longer pipes

Pics attached show the filthy location.  The tab and Jubilee clip came about (I believe) after a few Commando catastrophes when they came unscrewed on the road.  No idea why.

The picture is vertically up from road level.
