My 1955 Model 88 does not have adjustable pre-load on the rear suspension units. I think they are Girlings. Two up, especially with luggage, it sometimes bottoms out. So, I am looking at new rear damper units, thinking about Hagons with spring covers. I see Feked offer them, allegedly for 1957-60 bikes. Do the earlier bikes need a different unit?
Spec for wide f/bed 12 7/8" long, eyes top + bottom 5/16" bolt, 3/4" wide. 110lb spring

I just called Hagon
and they confirmed that the data is correct, and no issue with earlier Widelines. Also that the standard 110lb spring would be suitable - 12 stone + 8 stone riders, etc.

Paul,
When I replaced my Mercury rear suspension units a few years ago I phoned Hagon directly and found them very helpful with advice. They asked what weight the rider and pillion was and how much luggage we would take, then confirmed that the standard spring rate was suitable for us.
Also, at the time they were the same price as going to other companies that stock comparable quality units.
