ATF in the primary case.

Forums

I have been helping another old contact who has  envied my old bikes and bought a bike to re-kindle those old memories . He has little mechanical ability so has given his bike to an "expert". Looking through it everything the expert did is suspect..  Apparently the clutch was ok  but having been filled with ATF (of some type)  it now slips. The ATF feels as slippery as a fully synth engine oil to me. And i'm pretty sure it is of the type used in expensive Porsche cars. What type of ATF do we need?. Looking through the history of ATF there are many types and specs. My recollection is that the ATF i used in the past was thin ,watery and not very slippery at all. Possibly Ford F spec? Anything like this availiable today?.

Yes F type is what I have used in my PC case. I have been fooled in the past with a slipping clutch. If gear oil from the gear box leaks into the PC case it can cause the clutch to slip. To cure this I re filled with type F and then ran the bike a 100 miles or so as the clutch would still slip but got progressively less with each mile and now does not slip at all for the last 3 years.

Thanks , A company called Westway sell type F on e-bay.  A litre bottle will probably do 3 primary fills or 2 with regular top ups.
