Having just rebuilt the bottom end and fitted new piston rings i fitted the head and the the valve clearances are huge even with the adjuster screws all the way down so only the square nut is showing above the locknut i have 2 to 3 millimeters of clearance can anyone advise?
i had the head vapour cleaned which meant removing the rocker gear and valves is it possible to put the rockers in wrong?
cheers

Hi Ashley
thanks for that.
the pushrods are 181mm long and 203mm long and just checked on RGM norton site and they should be 185mm and 206.5
Thanks for the info.
it looks like the guy who had the bike before me was a scratch it bodge it and scarper merchant.
Cheers

i should retract my previous comment about scratch it bodge it and scarper
I thought the original head had been skimmed to far down so bought a replacement head that has not been skimmed. the pushrods were to short for this setup however I have just been given the old paperwork that was with the bike and it seems the engine had several modifications like S4 cam and other mods to take it to a Norton service release N3/64 spec "stage Two" road racing conversion.
the pushrods that i thought were too short and the original head comply with the conversion in the document pack i was given
the bike had been messed about with and it was a bit of an enigma to start with as the original owner is said to have dropped it and wrecked the original panels and with the VIN plate being under the seat and the rear brake and gearshift having rear sets fitted i thought it may be a factory JPN the engine mods have now got me wondering if it was indeed a factory JPN
the owners club said the engine / frame number one before mine was a factory JPN
i am as confused as ever.

You'd soon notice if the rockers were in the wrong place, this sounds like you have incorrect pushrods. If they are the correct length then valve stems are next place to look.
