Clutch cable routing

I'm putting together the bits of my 'project' 650SS, more or less in the condition that I received them. Firstly to find out what's missing and secondly, to make any 'tweaks' or adjustments before the bits are painted/chromed/powder coated.

I've noticed that the clutch cable will have a somewhat less than ideal route as the cable entry into the gearbox is directly underneath the oil tank (the gearbox has been rebuilt and filled with the requisite amount of oil, hence the temporary blanking screw). The cable would have an undesirable bend in it to get it around the front of the oil tank with the gearbox in it's most forward position. That will only get worse if the gearbox needed to be adjusted rearward. Is there a solution, or do you just live with it?

Cable is normally routed behind the oil tank .In my case I felt it more important to get a better run so I have made a slot in the tank bracket and engine plate !. All neatly hidden behind my DL side panel. I am far more interested in riding than showing an orriginal bike.

For a featherbed  you should install the correct GB FB outer cover instead of showing a commando cover?

Problem will be much reduced.

this is a photo of featherbed model 50 clutch cable/cover. wonder if yours should come out the same place and route up behind the oil tank.

Ok, thanks... I've found another outer cover that has the more rearward cable entry. There might be a problem, however. This cover came from an earlier gearbox with the earlier kickstart spring arrangement... the spring located in a hole in the inner cover. The gearbox on the bike has the later inner cover and kickstart spring arrangement... spring located on a peg in the inner cover.

Will this earlier outer cover fit the later inner cover and kickstart spring arrangement.?

I dont think there is any problem ,but I would fit a new kickstart  quadring seal and new o ring to the gearchange spindle.
