Hi i'm renewing by big end shells while i have the engine stripped down and a 1/2 socket is ti small but the 9/16 socket is to big could anyone tell me what size the socket should be for the nut to remove the big end shells on an 850 commando and where to get one?

its a whitworth socket you need,and may have to grind the end slightly so as to get a good fit on the nut,

FITS ALL NORTON TWINS 650 AND UP. (SEE 17827 FOR SMALLER ENGINES).
USE WITH BOLT 066486 (SUPPLIED SEPARATELY).
So yes, it would be a WW/BSF size

You'll need the 1/4 ww…
