Hi All, I have a 1975 Commando MK3 with a primary drive belt conversion. The current belt is a Medway Power Transmission type HTD 880-8M-50 and shows signs of a wear on one edge. As I am currently completely stripping and rebuilding the engine I will do course replace the belt. Can anyone recommend a better belt than that produced by Medway or should I stick with the existing type.
Kind Regards and Thanks for all and any replies.
Phil

Hi David, The wear is very minimal and to be honest if I hadn’t been rebuilding the engine I would of just kept an eye on it at regular intervals. I am not concerned with the quality of the belt I was just really enquiring if there was a stand out type. I will however have a go at checking the alignment when I refit the engine.
Thanks and Regards

The wear is probably not the sign of a poor belt more likely the gearbox isn't parallel with the crank. Being a Mk3 it's not as easy to adjust. You may have to fit pre Mk3 adjusters which is a real pain. However it might be caused by a compound of errors due to the clearances in the bolts etc when mounting the motor and gearbox. You might try slackening off the mountings and see if you can true up the shafts.
