Hi all
On the back of the fuel tank is the hook that the rubber band goes over. I gather it goes underneath and over this frame lug.
Has anyone got a picture for what bolts onto this lug ?
Thanks
Steve

The two prongs pointing towards the rear....

Hi Steven
If you are really lucky, the rubber band will last more than 5 minutes, or until you have fitted the seat. I'm sure it is a case of "they don't make em like they used to", but I had 3 fail in short order.
I gave up on the 'genuine' ones and now use a piece of old bicycle helmet strap on mine.

George

Polyurethane drive bands...
...are great for this job. Roughly 5mm round bands sticks with heat plate or Superglue. Available on line or if you know any one involved with conveyors with line shaft drive they will have plenty.

Thanks for the tips
Thanks all.
I'm looking for info on what bolts onto that tab. I understand the band wraps around it, but there is a hole in it like something mounts on it.

Rectifier mount.
I have no idea what Norton originally bolted to this lug. But for the last 30 years it has been the perfect location for my bikes encapsulated rectifier.....

Is it just a hangover from the wideline, when the petrol tank had a centre strap? Certainly that's what I used it for when I had an ali tank years ago.

In my rush to be "helpful" I have as usual only shown my ignorance: on reflection, the Wideline tank strap was of course held on at the back by a special bolt and toggle arrangement fitted into the tool tray. Nothing to do with the frame crosstube.
Of course, I could always just delete my posting- but where's the humility in that!

Well done Michael
We are all prone to being "quick to help", that's not a failing, its an attribute. I wish I knew that I could delete postings......

When I bought my late 650SS, the condensers was fitted to that lug.
Edit The coils are fitted to the head steady. Seems very original for the late twin points ignition.
