Forums

Hi again everyone my exhaust front pipes are not the standard balanced pipes but are I believe earlier commando pipes unbalanced and fitted to pea shooters I had to remove my right side down pipe and when doing so 2 collets and a domed washer fell out and I did not see how or in which order or position to install them there is no gasket and the system was not leaking before I interfered with it could someone please explain to me in which order and position I need to replace them in please see pics sorry for the dumb Q but my manual simply says replace as removed nothing about falling out many thanks Chris

... fits straight into the head with the flat face innermost. Then the exhaust pipe flange then the 2 collets with the narrow side outwards followed by the securing nut. There isn't enough thread to put a copper / asbestos washer under the domed seating. The dome is to allow the line of the pipes to be tweaked slightly to get a better run and avoid distorting the mounting bobbins. Originallu used with the balance pipe exhausts but fine with the separate ones.

It doesn't normally leak but if required a thin smear of ordinary bathroom silicone on the flat face of the domed component will make sure. It won't melt or burn away.

I run the same system on my Mk3 850.

On some cheaper pipes the flange can break a bit off when tightened up, so beware and keep the flange square with the port.
