rocker shaft oil pipe

hi the rocker feed pipe on my 74 mk2 came adrift today pumping oil all over . when i looked at it the pipe from the timing case was pushed in to a rubber pipe that was then connected to the feed on the head it looked like a bit of a bodge to me isnt the black plastic pipe supposed to go  straight to the union on the head if so is the pipe heat shrunk on to the union and will any oil resistant pipe do the job or will it have to be plastic .  thanks in advance

The standard pipe is indeed an unconvincing plastic effort. It is also out of stock at AN (https://andover-norton.co.uk/en/shop-details/16563).

Instead AN offer a stainless steel braided version (https://andover-norton.co.uk/en/shop-details/16569). It appears to be very similar to, but more expensive than, Venhill's offering (https://www.venhill.co.uk/norton-oil-line-cylinder-head-n01-10-100p.html?vehicle=2055).

I fitted the HEL version (https://britbikes.co.uk/collections/oil-feed-pipes-bolts-range/products/norton-commando-rocker-oil-line-kit-in-stainless-steel-oem-black-06-5561-06-2168), which is cheaper than either the AN or Venhill versions and has the advantage of a black coating which not only preserves the original look (if that matters to you) but more importantly protects against the propensity of unprotected stainless steel braid to act as a very effective hacksaw on anything it comes in contact with.

... the standard pipe does look a bit feeeble I never had any problems with it in 20 years and 50,000+ miles on my 850 Commando.

Hi i didnt have problems with my 750 in the 70s but this one has a short  rubber pipe  on the union which the black plastic pipe is pushed in to i dont think this is standard though .
