Netley Marsh Auto-jumble

Apparently, Thursday evening was the big trading time amongst sellers who were camping at the  Netley A/J.. So possibly, the bargains had already been snapped up before Joe Public's day on the Friday. Which also saw the odd heavy shower pass by.

At least it stayed dry all day on the Saturday but I might as well have had a stall in the local graveyard.  The footfall was that poor.

Fortunately, I was able to flog enough bits and pieces to enough desperate people and came away with extra cash in my wallet.  This included selling a complete ES2 engine with Magdyno and Carb that was almost ready to fit in a frame and run.  

By 2.00 pm most sellers were packing up and departing. Back home I discovered more boxes of spare Norton bits and pieces that there had not been room in for in the car..

Therefore I have booked a stall at Kempton on 24th September. There was also the possibility of having a stand at Shepton Mallet in November but the closing date for entries was last Monday.

One drawback of a Kempton A/J is the change of entry times to allow the 'early bird' punters to roam around. This in turn has led to a demand by the organisers for sellers to set up by 7.30 am.  Which probably means starting off in the dark, as well as hoping for a dry day. What I don't like about these 'early bird' entries is that they gather like wolves and get in the way of setting up a stall. Some even opening  the doors of the car to check out items.

Hi Richard.....I could only make the Saturday as I felt that paying £60 plus for the two days was a bit over the top for a private garage clearance seller. The Saturday stall charge was also for one person only with a single helper costing another £10. Whereas for a punter it was only £6 to get in. Work that one out?  My wife and I had a stall in a middle row next to a BSA bits seller.  I did  not see any other stall with mainly Norton spares. When we arrived the hawks descended in numbers mostly asking for 16H parts, Dommi Timing Covers and AMC clutches. 

The second Netley day has always suffered from the conflict with the Beaulieu A/J. I don't think there were more than 40 stalls, in total, on the Saturday at Netley. The organisers of NM just cannot see that their rip off prices put the average Joe Soap off from having a stall if they don't think they have much gear of any value.   

The Kempton charge for a stall includes 2 adults but the killer early set-up time now being demanded is silly.  Then, after 6 hours standing around in cold or wet weather I would be wanting to leave asap. At this time of year a later start would help everybody.
