I am in the middle of rebuilding the front forks on my '71 roadster. I cannot remove the fibre washer inside the bottom of one of the sliders as it seems impossible to get at. Any suggestions please?

You go through the bolt hole from the outside with a small 90 degree pick, such as the one Dan suggested. should not be difficult.

Fibre washer
If you use a pick as suggested by Dan, or an engineer's scribe with short tail. Touch the point against the inner surface of the bolt hole and gently push the scribe into the hole. You will feel where the hole in the fork leg ends and the fibre washer sits. Poke the 90 Deg pick into the washer and push the washer into the fork leg. The idea is to lift the washer without reducing it to bits.

Thanks Guys, I made myself a dentist type pick and finally got it out after many attempts. I think the washer must have been in since the bike was built in '71 as it was rock hard and had swollen so that it was wedged hard into the recess it sits in.
