After four years I have now converted several boxes of rusting parts into a rideable Dommie 99. Thanks to everyone who has provided me with help, ideas, information and support over the years.

Thanks Bob. My only other…
Thanks Bob. My only other Dommie (over 50 years ago) had rearsets so I was at a loss regarding how high the footrests should be on a standard bike. I’ve now moved the foot pegs and gear lever up to get the righthand peg level with the gear lever bolt. It’s made a huge difference and although I haven’t yet tried it out on the road, just sitting on the bike in the garage allows me to get first gear easily with the toe of my boot. I had to move the kickstart back one spline as well as the folding arm touched the back of my leg so I’m hoping I’ll still have enough swing to start the bike - it feels ok but only a real test will prove whether it’s correct.
Thanks again.
Regards
Tony

Wow , gosh ! , thats at least a couple of things I've got right this year. going to be hard to carry my big head. But there's a worry, If I'm now an expert , who do I ask for advice ! Its a funny moment when your old wise Dad starts asking your opinion , then not many years on your kids start advising you what to do. I am always happy to learn something new about our old Nortons and this forum has lots of helpfull members ( real experts ) who bring a wealth of hard won experience and skills that I can only dream of. We are lucky.

Kick Start (Dross warning)
Well done Tony on not throwing in the towel.
Looking at the kick starter, I would say it is in about the normal position.
A couple of years ago I had problems with my right leg. (Now resolved) I couldn't get my foot high enough. (Moving the foot change in an upward direction also an issue then so adjusted that)
What I did with the kick start was to lower it until I could get my foot raised high enough. A short swing is better than no swing. Anyway, all adjusted back to normal for now. Happy riding.

looking at your photo I can see why you are finding the gearchange action a little "tight"Your footrests are much lower than usual (daddy longlegs?) and its closing the gap between rests and lever. You could get an extension welded into the lever or try fitting higher handle bars which will change your body angles and may allow a more std footrest and lever position. I am 5 foot 10" and my footrest is close to level with the gear lever bolt, Gear lever rubber close to the timing cover badge . Knees now in handy position for resting chin on !!.
