Hello fellow bikers.
Has anyone had experience with using Ferodo "Platinum" brake pads?
These are offered on the RGM site at quite a price hike from the "normal" type so before I lash out and buy them it would be a good idea as to what the difference is if any at all.
This question was asked of RGM but they have nothing to add to the description on their site, saying that they have no experience of the efficacy of these pads.
Regards.
Paul.

Ferodo Platinum
Excellent pads and good on both cast iron and the stainless discs I now use with the standard callipers front and rear. Better than the SBS and EBC equivalents by far in all conditions.
As Richard mentioned Vintage Brakes used to sell them before they became more readily available. I recall phoning the bloke years ago re keeping the original Mk3 Norton discs and callipers

He said there was nothing inherently wrong with the stock setup apart from the front master cylinder bore being too large. Change it to a 13mm bore, fit Ferodo Platinum pads on good unchromed discs, new brake fluid, aeroquip hoses and the braking is way better. The best common sense Commando brake advice I,ve come across.
He did say they regularly tested this setup on rideouts across the nearby Sierra Nevada mountains including the 10,000 ft Tioga Pass if I recall correctly. Their Commandos operated perfectly under these demanding conditions with the brakes getting very hot.

Brake Pads
By the above comments it would appear that the Platinum pads are worth a few more pension spondulix coupled with the 13mm master cylinder mod of which I have just carried out using the RGM kit.
Using only the plug tap supplied showed just how tough the master cylinder material actually is, V tough!
I'll get on to RGM before they sell out of pads.
Many thanks for your comments.

brake pads
They are a little cheaper at RGM (férodo platinum) than the AP-RACING from ANDOVER NORTON

I use them front and rear on a Mk3. I had never been satisfied with sintered pads after the withdrawal of asbestos but these are a vast improvement.
I'm not sure how things are now, but when I first bought them although they are made in Italy by Federal Mogul, the Commando pads were exclusively produced for 'Vintage Brake' in the USA and had to be imported from there.
Well worth it in my opinion. I don't think you'll find better for the standard set-up.
