Hello all. I did say in an earlier post that when solved my electrical issue I would advise what it was in case others suffer same fault. The original issue was no ignition unless I switched on lights pressed horn and the system got up and running until turned it off and then same problem. Eventually failed altogether. Thanks to the site and Al for his help eventually traced it to the ammeter which was making the circuit frtom the battery to provide power when 'provoked' by the horn but eventually broke down altogether. New ammeter to replace old (it was I think the 1959 original) and problem solved. Now need to drain the sump of the oil tank given time took to solve and trace somehow a now rubber key seal on the PRS8 to stop water getting in (not that it rains in Wales!. I also used the site info to re-seat the medallion in a tank oil seal washer as advised here as this came away when fiddling inside the headlight. Thanks for previous comments and help - appreciated from all. Hugh

Hi Jon. The medallion process was found by entering into the site's search box that term and up came about 4 entries. I was just scrolling through each one when up came a photo link and a part number for the silver oil seal washer with some comments on what to do.What I did was using the rim of the medallion superglue it to washer and then trim the medallion to fit the hole in the headlight shell as an external fit rather than doing this internally which seems to be what implied by the rim on the medallion. The previous owner had glued the medallion rim internally to the h/l shell and it had held for about 25 years as the restored bike featured in the 1995 club calendar (August). Having got a reasonable fit then glued externally to headlight. It looks pretty much like the picture you will find.but it is currently drying so hopefully will stay on - especially given the cost of a simple plastic moulded part. The washer was about 49p from Andover Norton. With the ammeter not decided what to do with it yet it as it has continuity. I guess I could have just cleaned contacts although all sorts of glue on back maybe indicating a previous repair but will probably keep as a spare till the new one proves itself. Hugh

Many thanks...
Sounds like the "domestic" engineering I have used. The price of the medallion with the aluminium ring is extortionate and then to fit it was a bit messy also. I pressed a brass "grommet" eyelet into the hole and then glued the Medallion into it, works but only 25months into a 25 year trial ;-)
Was thinking to build the internals of the "Britax" into an original case, or put the face of an original into the Britax. There are no contacts its purely a moving iron instrument.
Thanks for the response,
Best regards
Jon

Not many of them around just now....
Prynhawn Da Hugh!
Good to here you are all set for the spring/summer which is just out of reach in Wales!
I have a couple of questions.
Did you keep the 59 Ammeter for rebuild/repair? I have a "Britax" replacement in a Model 50 that I would like to upgrade. If you are interested to sell it let me know.
Also; the Medallion re-seating. I missed that thread; can you tell me the solution?
Enjoy the new reliable machine!!
Cheers (Diolch)
Jon
