The frame is definately a DL , but boy its rough. The missing NS sidepanel  (rocking horse poo) means it not likely to ever be a  restored DL .

says now sold. Useful for it’s log book, which seller says is OK.

Projects seem to attract a premium since the first lockdown, so if that's the going rate its good value. Just don't expect to make any profit when it comes to sale time.

I have had bikes given to me, and only just about got my money back when selling, anybody who thinks that you can make a profit rebuilding  old bikes to sell can't  be doing much of a job.

Personally Ido it because it's  fun, which is always expensive  but if I spent the same number of hours in the boozer or whatever it would cost  me  a lot more  and at the end of it I wouldn't get anything back at all. 

I have been reducing the collection of late and whilst the money is reasonable, if I charged for  my time at UK minimum wage and all the research time to get the right parts I am practically giving them away.  But as you say Niall, its the fun and the knowledge you gain when you get underway with a project.

  My latest new toy is a plastic welding gun.  It sets stainless steel armatures into any Thermo plastic and almost invisibly repairs splits and cracks in fairings, panniers and even tool cases.  A very effective tool for less than £20.  One more in the armory of odd things to have!

No DL shown against the chassis  number in the log book either . At least they are matching and wrong!.Perhaps as they could not get it right  ,they decided not to bother.

My Notes show that this Norton was built as a DeLuxe 88 in the middle of 1961 but not sold and road registered until late 1962. The gearbox  shown does not really go with this particular machine being around 8 years older.   As for the frame colour???

According to the DSN2s this bike should be as follows........

1961 Model 88 Deluxe: Cycle parts – Dove Grey. Tank Norton Red & Dove Grey. Optional, Chrome guards

The Head steady looks to be in the orriginal frame  Dove finish. The bike has had several colour changes as shown by the red front  engine plate  which were never painted  red on a DL .
