Lately I have been struggling with an unreliable  gear change on the 99.   It has standard and orriginal parts ,but my size 9/10  boots  (Daytona's )  just won't fit under easily for up changes. Tried repositioning lever and rest but the only  workable  situation  puts the rests low enough to discourage the usual  joyfull excess  needed to put my boys in their place !. Is there a longer lever from another AMC box that  might work?.

... be worth getting a used lever and lengthening it with a plate along the side. I did something like that with a Honda which gave me a similar problem (although worse as I'm a size 12!).

Started with an alloy splined part from a linked rearset, Then made the rest. After some modifications now works fairly well.

Thanks guys, I am trying to keep the std look if possible I expect I will  have to do the opposite to what I did with the Rudge which had a riddiculous  long nearside gear lever. A local engineer cut out an inch and  invisibly welded it back together , I expect I have the offcut , so the Norton  will  be part Rudge !!.
