Fitting Swingarm bushes

I have replaced bushes is a freshly powder coated swing arm. 1962 Navigator.

I blanked the holes so no paint went in the bores. I polished the inside of the bores with emery until they were shiny. I made sure the bushes were rust free on the outside.

By using threaded rod, (biggest metric that will fit the hole in bush) nuts and some washers of various size to suit bush and swinging arm I was able to pull the bushes into the bores relatively easy. Lightly grease the bores first.

Hammering at the bushes to fit them is not advised.

I never considered heating the freshly powder coated swinging arm. You would do better to freeze the bushes. The benefit IMHO would be negligible.

Isn't it a pity that the high temperature in the powder coating process degrades the rubber. The rubber bushes seem to last for ever in use.

I too didn’t have a press but found that a vice worked well on my powder coated swingarm.
