After the factory workshop…
After the factory workshop manual your next purchase should be Norman White's book.

Haynes manual is pretty good…
Haynes manual is pretty good and most of it is lifted straight from the Norton shop manual.

Other Manuals
You can get a free download of manuals here.

Also consider Chris Rookes, How to Restore Norton Commando. He has a decent Facebook page with extra info as well.

Clymer manual.
Dont waste your money on Haynes really !
A far better manual is the American Clymer one, the photos and detail is excellent, if you cant afford the genuine norton one. Also get a decent colour version of the wiring diagram. Andover do lots of exploded drawings and photo parts sheets. Deffo get Norman's book. Oh, and a parts list !!

And the correct tools, and…
And the correct tools, and with all of the above, if you are still not sure then do ask. It saves money in the long run and avoids ideas like jacking off the engine sprocket with bolts!! Yes, I see it all.

Wiring and other electrical issues
On the subject of wiring diagrams, Grant Tiller's website (https://granttiller.com) is indispensable; he also has some very informative material on alternators and regulator/rectifier matters.
Also on electrical matters, our own Al Osborn has authoritative advice (http://www.aoservices.co.uk).

Not forgetting our very own Commando Service notes.

There's currently a Norton factory manual just listed on EBay UK at a reasonable cost

Commando revisited.
Haven't had a Commando for over 40 years now, however a few months ago I started collecting bits and building a special.
Still had my factory manual/, Haynes, parts list and spares list (With prices. Complete cases incl' timing cover £26 4s 2d, or head with guides £34 4s 4d anyone?).
I have supplemented those with other publications that reflect what I'm building/Ebaying.
Norman Whites book is good.
I was very disappointed with Chris Rookes book (And think it'd be of limited use even for a restoration.).
Dunstall tuning book which might be of more use to my kind of project TBH.
I have Googled Clymer manuals, but they seem to be part of Haynes now and the only publication that's coming up for me also includes Triumphs and BSAs.
There are a few originals on Ebay but they're in the States, although shipping is poss' I think.
