hello all,
ive struck a problem with the primary side crankshaft end seal. It was leaking badly so I have replaced the seal. on the next run out it’s still leaking, the seal was the correct dimensions and of the correct thickness. Has anyone else suffered similarly, if so what was the cure? The machine is a Dominator 88 of 1955 .
regards
David

Hi David, We are assuming you drained the sump before starting. A properly . wet sumped motor has to push the oil somewhere.

Hi. I’m about to build the engine of my 1960 Dommie 99 basket case. I’d like to check that the crankshaft nose isn’t worn but I can’t find the correct diameter listed in any of the books I’ve got. Does anybody know the correct size please?
If I can’t get the correct size info, does anyone have any hints on how to judge whether an oil seal is a ‘good enough fit’ on the crankshaft nose?
Thanks
Regards
Tony

When the seal wears the nose…
When the seal wears the nose it leaves a groove in the metal, as long as the surface is clean and smooth then the seal will do its job. When you fit the new seal, if it is the type with a steel OD, use a sealant here to stop leaks between housing and seal.

Hi David, has the crank worn over the years where the seal rubs on it I had that with my Dommi and found a solution with a thin sleeve that pushes over the shaft to give a smooth surface for the seal to bear on
