Can anyone please tell me where the curved centre spring bracket is mounted? I started my project about two years ago but due to a lack of funds had to leave it for a while, I took photo's as I stripped it down but obviously missed where the spring bracket mounts. I am currently putting the frame back together and don't want to find on completion that I should have fitted the spring bracket.
Any help appreciated. Howard

I’m pretty sure it slides onto the same shaft/spacer as the stand itself, but note there is a difference between the early and late bracket, I think the late one has a bigger mounting hole. I have look on the bike tomorrow.

If you look at the attached extract from the Navigator parts list, you can see part 32 which is the 'Centre Stand Spacer Tube, Outer'.
The 'Centre Stand Anchor Arm' mounts on item 32.
Which is itself mounted on item 33, 'Centre Stand Rod'.

Maybe I’ve got mine wrong,…
Maybe I’ve got mine wrong, but I’ve fitted mine to the rear lower engine bolt with the special sleeved nut (96). Shop shows both types of spring “hook” with different hole sizes (I think) to suit early or later engine mountings. Is mine in wrong place then?

On my Electra the spring bracket is mounted as Bruce says above - on the reduced portion of the special nut which is for the bottom rear engine mount.

Yes I think you are right, in my defence I wasn’t 100 sure, it goes on the reduced portion of the nut. I would add that I’ll be surprised if the spring pulls the stand all the way up!

Depends on your engine number.
Up to 106837 (= early type) and after 106838, and all Electra = late type.

Re change in the frame
Howard, I’m sure Andy will correct me if I’m wrong, but the fitting in the frame for the top bolt was modified for the Electra- and hence subsequently the later frames from a through-bolt, to the slotted arrangement, as this meant it only requires the nuts to be slackened if the stud cannot be withdrawn?? I think because of the larger primary chaincase?? The engine can then be removed/refitted with a bit less faffing about. At least I hope that's so- I’m nowhere near that stage of reassembly yet!
The cups on the frame give a bit more support for all that extra (!) power, hence the spigoted ends of the (“special”) nuts. I think. I’m learning, well, exponentially seems to be the word du jour…….

Stand not pulling right up

Good observation Dan.
The centre stand on the lightweights has very little tension in the return spring when the stand is fully retracted. This applies to pre and post '64 frame types.
The stand with lever, as offered by NOC spares, or that fitted to Electra, is heavier. Following a lightweight over a bumpy surface you will often see the centre stand lever bob up and down. Quite charming really.
Wear on any of the joints in the spring and anchor takes tension out of the spring. Add in wear on the centre stand pivots and stand cross bar. Every bit of wear conspires to take tension out of the spring.
It doesn't take much accumulated wear for the centre stand to not hold up at the retracted position, or hardly hold up. The small hole in the anchor arm goes first.
I think the apprentice designed the L/W centre stand.

Jubilee centre stand special nut.
I can see the shape of this special nut, is this to allow the anchor to swivel on the reduced end of the nut or is the anchor fixed.
