Hi. I’m certainly no expert, but as nobody else has chipped in, I’ll try and make a helpful suggestion. It looks like you might have a mismatch between long Roadholder parts and short Roadholder parts - maybe long Roadholder stanchions with short Roadholder headlight brackets? That’s just a wild guess. Hopefully my posting will encourage others with more (sensible) ideas to respond.

Food luck with getting it fixed. Nice looking bike.

Andrew,

You need to establish what you have that is correct, The stanchions, damper tubes and damper rods are different between short / long Roadholder and Commando and must be used in matching sets.

Nothing there that can't be rectified in a mornings effort.

Thanks both for your responses.

I fitted new short stanchions from NOC.

I do not know for a fact what my other parts are / long or short.

Any ideas where I can get hold of the dimensions ?

Thanks Andrew

An issue such as this can happen if 9" Commando type Damper body tubes are fitted. Short Roadholders need the shorter 7" Damper body tubes. At one time 10.5" bodies were available for riders who wanted extra movement.

I had the same problem after fitting Dresda internals to my forks. These used the longer 9" Damper chunks. The attachment shows a familiar looking gap. I did a quick fix by cutting 2 " from the top of each Damper rod and re-threading it. This was not the smartest of moves as the damper pistons got battered to death within 300 miles of riding.
