MAGNETO MALAISE

 Dear Members,

Last year Paul Wolf, our Club's magneto specialist, very successfully overhauled the Lucas M01M magneto on my 1953 Inter after it had failed after 17 years ownership so it was with some interest that I read Paul's article in this month's Roadholder regarding the failure and subsequent rectification of a problem that I was also experiencing with my 650SS  Lucas K2F.

I sent the K2F mag to Paul explaining that although there was a spark it was none too bright. A few days later he phoned me to say that the armature had not been correctly rewound when it had been overhauled about 5 years ago. Paul then undertook a full and comprehensive overhaul of the K2F and I received it back two days ago. I have spent the last couple of days reinstalling the magneto being particularly careful about the ignition timing.

Two kicks this afternoon and it was away, up and running perfectly.

The purpose of this posting is my personal recommendation to use our Club's magnificent specialists who fully understand what we sometimes go through.

Thanks Paul - I'm sorted after months of pondering what was going wrong.

Yes I had a similar problem. I got someone else to apparently completely refurbish my K2f.

And then had to get Paul to do it again.

I know where I will be going in future.

Paul has carried out repairs on magnetos and dynamos for me and I have no hesitation in recommending his services, he is always pleasant and easy to deal with.
