Petrol tank repair.

Hi can anybody supply me with the details of somebody who can weld/braze petrol tanks in the Devon/Somerset area?

Happy to pay whatever it costs as it's an original tank.

My commando tank has sprung a leak around one of the front fixing holes.

Someone has obviously attempted a repair previously.

Many thanks

Keith,

I had my leaking Navigator weld repaired very successfully a year or so ago and posted this on the Lightweight forum which you might find helpful:    "A big thank you to John Holmes for recommending CW Classic.co.uk who have just returned my Navigator petrol tank after completing a very neat and sympathetic weld repair to a fatigue crack round the rear mounting lug. I phoned Jason on 01268 780159 last Wednesday who knew exactly what he was talking about without all the hard sell of other specialists I spoke to.  He quoted a very reasonable £25 an hour.

I explained where the leak was and asked him if he would pressure test it to confirm, inspect the inside to see if it was rusting through and then do a weld repair minimising the damage to the original paint which I am keen to preserve. His business is in Rayleigh which is a good 6 hr + round trip from me so on his advice I posted the tank off via Parcel Force next day recorded delivery (£17.50).

You can imagine my surprise when the following afternoon I got a phone call back saying the repair was complete and pressure tested, the inside of the tank 'immaculate' and the total cost was £65 + postage if required!    Rather less than the £225 I was being quoted by a well known Devon tank restorer and a total repair time of 7 days compared to the two to three months quoted by the local firm!

Attached are photos so you can judge for your self. I  painted the effected area in red oxide and a suitably matching top coat to stop the rust and with the seat in place it isn't  visible!     Over a year later and no problems so I have every confidence in Jason's work - truly outstanding!

I hope this helps. .

I used CW to convert a 69 TR6 to 65 T120R, new badge holes, new top rack holes, new rubber knee pad holes plus dent removal. Sent pics for qoute and that's what I paid when it was finished and tank was perfect.  Old style service at old style prices.
