Pazon timing hole

Hi, I’m fitting a pazon electronic ignition to my Electra. Could someone who has fitted one of these please tell me which timing hole to use on the trigger plate.

Hi Stewart,

I've been running the 12v Pazon electronic ignition system on my late Navigator for well over a year now and it has utterly transformed the engine performance and reliability so a wise choice!    The Electra, Navigator & Jubilee all rotate the same way and are statically timed using the 'clockwise' timing hole on the backing / trigger plate.   I found I needed to use a small needle file to very slightly open out one of the mounting holes in the composite back plate to allow the retaining screws to line up.    It is also worth checking the clearance between the cam shaft rotor and the trigger back plate,  mine had ample clearance but some owners have reported the needed to make minor adjustments.   Once statically timed I strongly suggest you fine tune using a strobe - there are no fixed timing marks so you need to use a timing disc and pointer but these engines are very sensitive over timing and accuracy here will pay huge dividends in reliability and performance!  Good luck and let us know how the rebuild is going!  Cheers Nick

Thanks for your reply Nick. I had the same problem with the mounting holes. I will use a strobe light once statically timed.

I use the 6v Pazon on my Jubilee and it has transformed the starting. I agree with Nick's comments. I found that the timing was a few degrees out using the 'red spot through the hole' method when I checked it with a strobe. Simple to correct though by rotating the mounting plate. I had to fettle the mounting holes to fit so it seems to be a common issue.

Don't use a cut out switch between the Pazon electronics box and the battery supply, use the ignition switch feed only. If you cut power to the Pazon box with the engine still turning the alternator still pumps juice to the box and wrecks it - don't ask me how I know!

With regard a timing device for the lightweight. There is details of a fixed pointer than  can be cut out with 'a pair of scissors' if you are feeling keen. On my web site aoservices.co.uk  Needs bolting under a stator bolt. Can be left in place for 'next time'
