Silencers

Forums

I've been riding my recently acquired navigator, done about 60 miles now.  I'm surprised how noisy the exhaust note is.  I think rather too noisy, I wouldn't want to ride any great distance without ear plugs!  The silencers look to be of the type/shape that would have been originally fitted to my non-expert Norton eye.

I've just taken the silencers off the bike and find I can see right through from one end to the other.  looking down the inlet end there is a "louvered" baffle tube blanked off at the exit end.  This blanking piece has a small hole in it, approx 1/2" diameter.  Should that hole be there?  Looks to me that there is plenty of room for the gasses to exit the silencer through the baffle tube so I am going to block this hole off in the hope it quietens things down a  bit.

Might there be an alternative silencer I could fit?

I’ve got a pair of club silencers they work well, but as a youth I had Dunstall long megaphones, that got me a fine for excessive noise, boy were they noisy .....And that was a jubilee!  Suprising how noisy the are if not properly silenced!,

Thanks for the comments, I've now blocked the holes in the end of the baffles.  It's taken the edge off the noise, still quite noisy but I can live with that for the time being.

I've made a note of the baffles from the Classic bike shop, maybe fit those in addition to whats already there?

Now to deal with the oil leaks.......
