LOCATION OF ANTI SUMP VALVE

Forums

I have a 1964 Navigator that wet sumps. I don't need info on ways to maybe stop this but I have a manual shut off valve on all my other classic bikes and want to fit one on my Navi. The question is where as the tinware covers over the oil pipes coming out of the tank and getting access to open and close the valve is not obvious.

Someone must have solved this before - so please tell me, or even post a photo.

Thanks, Crawford

Hello Crawford!

This is my anti wet sump valve in situ. It has a mircoswith which is interrupting the ignition when in off position.

I have a great big crocodile clip from some old jump leads on my kick start to remind me to switch the manual shut of valve to 'on' before I start the bike. However, I like Uli's solution and I have bought a microswitch. Uli, I should like to know how to attach it mechanically to the valve/ pipe. Did you make up a bracket or use a 'p' clip, for example? I can't quite make it out from the photo.

Many thanks,

Dennis

From Ulrichs link - Google translates it as: (Looks very well made!)

Many Commando and Dominator owners suffer from the fact that after a longer, sometimes shorter service life, the engine oil from the oil tank has run past the oil pump into the engine and has filled it up to the top.
Before you can start the machine safely, you must drain the oil from the housing and refill the oil tank.
A problem that occurs with many motorcycles with dry sump lubrication.
In order to save this work and to remedy the shortage, many insert an oil tap in the suction line between the oil tank and the oil pump. This works wonderfully as long as you open the tap before starting the engine. However, if this is forgotten, and unfortunately this happens again and again, it will inevitably lead to engine damage.

As a solution, we offer a ball shut-off valve with a coupled electrical switch. When the shut-off valve is closed, the electrical connections are disconnected. When the shut-off valve is open, the connections are closed.
h You can therefore simply run the supply line to the ignition system via the switch, and it is no longer possible to run the engine with the oil tap closed.
The quality electrical switch is approved up to 10 amperes, so consumers up to 120 watts of power (based on a 12 volt electrical system) can be switched on and off, enough for the pure ignition system, but not sufficient for additional consumers such as lights, horn,. ..

Made from CNC machined aluminum and nickel-plated brass.

Available for hoses with an inner diameter of 8mm, 9mm or 10mm.

Price: 49.00 euros including VAT.

We also offer a corresponding shut-off valve for motorcycles with a magneto or Magdynamo. A switch with 3 connecting lugs is installed here which, depending on the pin assignment, allows the current to pass when the tap is closed and thus short-circuits a connected magneto, or interrupts the current when the tap is closed and thus switches off the battery ignition.

Made from CNC machined aluminum and nickel-plated brass.

Available for hoses with an inner diameter of 8mm, 9mm or 10mm.

Price: 52.50 euros including VAT.
