I think this is an "universal" sidestand, that don't fit good. I just fitted a sidestand from RGM to my 1957 Dominator 99. The pad on the rear clamp leans against the engine plates, so the clamp can turn.

I had to remove same material from the sidestand for the perfect ständig of the motorcycle and then to paint the sidestand.

The price is 105 pound sterling + p+p + VAT.

 

Hello Helmut,

I have been looking at your photo of the RGM side stand that you fitted. I have been told that to fit the side stand one has to lift the engine up slightly. However looking at your photo I would have thought that the rear clamp would fit ok without lifting the engine. Can you please confirm as to whether you had to ease the engine up or not.

Also,was there sufficient clearance for the fitting if the rear primary chain case ?

I fitted one of RGM's side stands as a C-Vid Lockdown job. I got it second hand from a fellow NOC-er at half the price. It had not been 'adjusted' in any way and all it took (after removing the inner chain case) was some minor touching up with an angle grinder, a second cut flat file and a half round file to ease the fit on the frame tube. No need to move the engine at all. Fits nice and snug against the engine plate and no problem to me when putting the leg down when sat on the bike.

I too fitted this item, very robust and rock solid in use. Downsides? A considerable amount of material needed to be removed to allow sufficient angle of lean (but hey, you only need to do it once!) and the projection for foot operation was too short, making it difficult to operate when seated on the machine. I have welded on a 25mm extension to overcome this. All in all, it now works very well and worth the faff about to fit.

hello just found my file photo of the zzr 600 sides and fitments to featherbed slimline  this make everything solid  and will not fall over   stainless steel used   3/8 nuts and extra long stud bar  Photo of ZZR Side Stand fittings   below  in attachments                                yours anna j

For the same reason as most, too many years, I really need a side stand on mt 1957 Dommi 99. As I am currently living in Europe a stand fitted to the RHS of the bike would be appropriate and would probably be more straight forward to fit. I've seen mention of Kawasaki stands, do they fit on my 1.25" diameter frame and will they tuck in under the exhaust.

Anna, did you attach to the engine/gearbox plate rather than the frame tube?

Hello John No It was engineered to fit right with the a bracket to the rear engine plate and the bottom frame tube it's not going anywhere yours Anna J

I tried fitting a new ANIL side stand but when I attempted to put the bike on its side stand the angle of lean was far too much. I have read here that a 'considerable amount' of material has to be removed from the lower part of the bracket but how much has to be removed? Can sufficient material be removed with my angle grinder or bench grinder? Or would it be best to have it machined at a local engineering company in which case it would be better to know how much to remove to prevent multiple trips.

If this material has to be removed I am surprised the side stand has not been modified by this time.

That’s interesting. I too have an AN sidestand and mine has the opposite  problem - the upper part of the bracket  that is supposed to bear against the engine plate doesn’t touch it unless the stand is moved so far out that the bike leans at about 40 degrees. I’ve had to make a tapered metal packing piece that I’m going to stick with JBWeld onto the back of the stand bracket. With that in place, the bike sits at the correct lean angle.

Hope you get your stand sorted out - they do seem to be a bit of a crude ‘hit or miss’ design but a valuable addition none the less.

My lean angle was too much until I inserted a tapered shim between it and the engine plate. There was a parallel gap all the down mine.  I think the plate mounting lug position probably varies which could explain the variation in fit. Also it varies according to the rear suspension setting.  Iam fairly sure mine is Norton. RGM web site gives fitting instructions.
