I'm replacing the Auto advance unit and the points with a Pazon electronic ignition system on my Electra.
Has anyone got, or does anyone know where I can find, a tech drawing of the "puller" used to push the auto advance off the cam taper? I think the thread for the tool is 5/16" BS Cycle (26 tpi) but I could do with seeing what is required in terms of diameters and lengths so I don't screw up the the end of the cam and it's thread (1/4" BSF) if I make one. There's not a great deal of room for a shoulder to bear up against.
Thanks
Ricardo

That Andover Norton slide…
That Andover Norton slide hammer arrived yesterday for me and removed my commando rotor in about 30seconds(first slide). Not overly expensive and Well worth the money in my opinion as bound to be needed again.

Pazon Taper
One thing I found when I fitted one to my Jubilee was that the taper on the Pazon unit is angled differently to the hole in the end of the camshaft that takes the auto advance gubbins, making it a less than secure fit. I'll be interested to read how you fare with yours.

Hi Richard,
I thought I'd answered this before. Here it is.

Hope this link works for you in the browser.
Or search 'Engine dismantling tools for Navigator' in the search box on this website.

Extractor tool
Thanks Peter - I looked for such a forum item but couldn't find it! The details are perfect; and confirms the thread; luckily I have a die at 5/16" BS Cycle and a lathe so I'll have a go at making a suitable puller.

I used a cycle thraed bolt....
On my Jubilee I used a cycle thread bolt, tightened it finger-tight and gave it a light tap with a hammer to free the taper. It worked every time.
I have installed a Pazon and it works very well. Don't put a kill switch between the battery and the feed to the Pazon unit or you will kill the electronics.
Timing via the 'red dot' method is OK but check it later with a timing gun to vetrify. If the Electra is anything like the Jubilee it is very sensitive to correct ignition timing. You need to mark the alternator at TDC and the correct advanced setting using a timing gauge. There are posts on the Light Twins forum about how to do it.
