seat retaining bolt for Electra

Hi David,

The bolt you have bought from the NOC Shop is for very early Jubilee. The seats on this model were secured  up front by two hooks on the frame tubes and two 'Terry clips' which fitted over the large diameter part of bolts SS23 71 21298. 

A passer-by could easily lift and remove the seat, exposing the tool kit too. Soon changed.

All models use the frame hooks to secure the seat at the front, with standard models having the seat rear secured between two spacers on the rear mudguard/shock top securing bolt.

I suggest you measure the length of your stripped bolt. Measure it's diameter which should be 3/8ins. Measure the length of the treaded portion to the nearest mm. Originally the thread form would have been 'British Cycle thread 26 teeth per inch'

Now you are in a good position to get a replacement.

I recommend using the part numbers from the Electra parts list. Interestingly this suggests the parts you need are stud 22572, two nuts E3224. A long bolt seems another solution.

I hope you can get a replacement. If you have any friends with tread cutting dies, then a longer stud or a longer bolt of 3/8ins diameter could be adapted.

Sadly they aren't available in the NOC shop and strangely don't appear to be listed in my 1964 parts list - are they in the earlier parts list David?  Nick 

Thanks David, I was looking at the Jubilee & Navigator spares book - quite a few of the parts numbers are missing towards the rear of the frame and top of the shock absorber mounts even though they are numbered on the drawing.   I will get a copy of the Electra spares list you have mentioned - a good investment!   Nick
