After more help please. My late 1965 Jubilee has the AMC front forks (square bottom) with mudguard stays locating under the wheel spindle. I know the handlebars are supposed to be fitted with U bolt clamps through the top yoke, but can anyone advise whether the bars fitted at that time had “welded” Brake/Clutch lever perches (like the earlier lightweight) or were they a plain bar with bolt on perches?
Thanks for all help so far - I’m getting there (slowly!). Pic to date attached.

Thanks Nick - yes I’m pleased with the colour, it’s taken a bit to get it to what I thought should be (close?) though! Info on the bars is what I thought and would appreciate a photo if it could be managed. I’ve got the alloy brackets but there’s no stock of the plates so I’ll make them up. Chrome U bolts could be a problem at 7/8’s but I’ll find suitable ones somewhere. The welded perch (plain) bars can be got (new) for Bantams just need to get right length and shape.

My bars have lugs with large bolts...
The handle bars on my '64 Jubilee have lugs attached and have large bolts that go through the rear holes on the headlight mount. From what I can see in the photo yours are the same as mine. I did not use 'U' bolts.
I believe the same headlight/handle bar mount was used on a number of bikes e.g. Francis Barnet and that may be the reason for the other holes in the mount. My bars also have welded lever attachments.

Thanks Dennis - is yours the “square” bottomed fork legs by any chance? Think they’re called AMC MK2’s. I suspect by late 65 (when mine was made) AMC were probably using a “mix & match” system from whatever stock they had so bars could have been anything I suppose.
If I’m going to use “Ducon” switchgear that means I’ll have to have plain bars but I’ve got 3 different options if that isn’t correct, I’ve got a set of the type bars you have in good condition if I need them but I’m sure when it’s finished there’ll be “someone” who’ll point it out if wrong! I’m trying to get as close to original external looks as possible with this one but not to concourse std hence all the questions!

Hi again Bruce, further to…
Hi again Bruce, further to my post above my Jubilee was from the last 100 made and not only had the 'U' bolted bars with the clamps as I described above but also the Ducon switch gear on the left hand handlebar, the clamped on choke lever on the right hand handle bar and the square bottomed forks so I think you are looking for the right specification for 65.

Yes, asa far as I know,…
Yes, asa far as I know, Jubilees & Navigators for all years had weded on levers. It was only the Electra that had clamp-on levers, with the choke control integral with the front brake lever

Mine is a '64 Jubilee but it was a bag of parts. About the only period correct item at the headstock is the handlebars. The forks are also original but I don't know what 'square bottom' refers to? Sounds like others know what period correct items should be.
Good luck,
Dennis

Hi Bruce, your Jub' is looking fantastic and brings back happy memories of my totally originonal very late 'F' reg Jubilee I ran for several years in the late 70's and early 80's until it was stolen! You have got the 'Flamboyant Red' spot on from the look of it! I can confirm my Jubilee had the "welded" brake and clutch lever perches and they were clamped through the top yoke using chrome 'U' bolts and the alloy mounting brackets and support plates which you can buy through the NOC shop. You will find the mounting brackets (Part No: 25090 price £2.50 each) and support brackets (Part No: 25091 price £1.50 each) under the 'Miscellaneous' list in the online shop. I have got a set of those bars awaiting re-chroming which came off my unrestored and original late Navigator and was surprised how narrow and frankly 'cheap and flimsy' they were (I'm being polite!). A quick search of the work shop hasn't turned them up yet but if you would like a photograph as a reference I will dig them out and send one. Good luck with the rebuild - post us some photos of the finished article - by the time they got to your year they were a cracking little bike only really let down by the feeble front brake, the 6v electrics and the awful points set up which made timing such a difficult thing to get right and keep right as I remember only too well!
