Maintenance manual says it a 6 volt 1.5 watt, but does not say what type of cap it goes into. Does anyone know. Ive converted to 12 volt.
Thanks
John.

First find your Bulb Holder
Is it an SSM magnetic instrument ? I believe that they always had a push-in bulb holder and that the actual lamp varied over time. Some late types were 'capless'...Perhaps best to obtain a holder first from one of the usual suppliers and obtain bulb to suit....

Speedo bulb
The 60 mm Smiths speedo has an external bulb holder.
There is no space for a bulb inside the instrument.
You can use a bulb with a BA9s socket.

John, I have a late…
John, I have a late Navigator with an original speedo and light bulb holder set up. The light bulb holder isn't available through the NOC shop that I can find - it is a small metal holder which clips (with much struggling!) into a spring loaded metal pronged bracket seperate from but next to the speedo so the light shines through a Perspex covered slot in the side of the speedo case and the plastic body of the ammeter. I have converted mine to 12v and the 4w 12v bulb you can buy from the NOC shop fits the holder- search on page one of electrical - part number: SS09B3 Lucas number BA9S. I will photograph the holder and post it on here tomorrow - frankly it is a less than satisfactory typically cheap and nasty solution of the era which so often gave the Lightweight twins an unfairly poor reputation from their weak 6v electrics. Converted to 12v and electronic ignition the Navigator is a joy to ride and own......but perhaps I am bias!

Thanks for letting me know…
Thanks for letting me know John, I was dreading photographing it - it is a pig to get out and even more difficult to get back in! I have to say I was surprised the other night riding back from a meeting in the dark - with 12v electrics I could actually see where I was going and could read both the speedo and ammeter so it is worth the expense and work converting to 12v. That and the Pazon electronic ignition have transformed the Navigator's performance, reliability and usability so money and time well spent! I'm sure you will find the same with the Jub'!

Can you not take your old 6v bulb along to your local supplier and have them supply a new 12v unit with the same mounting configuration?
