Hi, recently purchased a Navigator de luxe 1962 for restoration. Decided to fully strip and rebuild the engine and a few problems came to light; loose cylinder head nuts, fingertight camshaft nuts to name a couple, but my main problem is that the crankcase halves appear to have been sealed with blue loctite. My reasoning for this that they are impossible to separate with evidence of a blue compound at the joint. Any ideas anyone?

Hi John,
Having had the same problem as you when I first stripped down the Navigator I bought I thought the attached picture may help. The timing cover gasket can hide the two bolts.
Dave.

John, there are several easy to miss Allen bolts on the lightweight crankcases so check carefully all the way round the casings. The most likely two are in the right hand cylinder spigot bore (the hole in the crank case that the cylinder fits into) and can be hidden by oily residue. Sometimes heating round the joint and main bearing housing can help break the grip of the old gasket goo - but resist the temptation to level the cases apart - too easy to damage them! If you haven't got a copy of the Norton Maintenance Manual and Instruction book for the Jubilee and Navigator I strongly recommend you do - it will make your rebuild much easier! Available from the NOC shop. Good luck. Nick
