Wiring up the coil

Forums

Hi all

Well electrics and me don't get on and to make things more difficult I have added regulator/Rec new 2mc, tri spark ignition, and a honda handle bar control for the indicators etc.

I have followed the wiring diagram for the 1972 and 1973 models in the workshop manual, and decided to make up the loom using Al Os parts all has gone well so far.

By using the Honda control I have given up a few of the original controls one being the button to kill the engine. So my question is as I now do not have this button which used to break the contact, I assume that I will wire using a white wire direct from the white terminal block to the coil which will become live when I turn on the master switch?

I assume I am correct........watch for garage fire in Bedford

The original engine kill switch for the Commando was a break function between the WHITE ignition supply and the ignition coil WHITE/YELLOW , To use this function the Honda switch needs to have the WHITE ignition supply input and an output from this function feeding the coil, original wiring would be WHITE/YELLOW. These colours are the original Commando colours, I do not know what the Honda H/Bar colours might be, it would be the use of a Multimeter on ohms/continuity to sort.

With traditional battery/coil ignition you must have a 'break' function. If you have a magneto then an 'earthing' function can be used. Such a function can be arranged with a single wire with it earthing to the Handlebar via the switch.
