Hello All NOCers Just a thought How about an exchange part services for NOC members parts exchanged for a similar value from smallparts to lagers ones and hagglingin between or cash and part exchange between owners them that has part he or she that they no longer need, and need other parts for a Nortoncan then do it this way insteadof parts laying around in your garage or shed /workshop so some other owner can then have the benefit of putting saidparts to good uses this is only an idea to see what you members think of this with the blessing of the Executivecommittee the NOC owners can only but give this a try out and see how this all works out. This is a usefull idea, I do have parts that I would not bother to sell, I also would be happy to swap for ,in particular orriginal old stock bits. This can work well but often needs a go between to ensure satisfaction. My only intercontinental swap went badly wrong when the other half decided to remove bits after the deal was agreed!!. Luckilly the go between spotted this and stood firm.A deal is a deal.

Hi Anna...not a bad idea but the NOC web site has a "Classifieds" section that surplus items can be sold. Perhaps it is better just to sell things for cash rather than have to find a matching swap of something roughly of the same value and furthermore, the swap items would have to be something that was wanted or needed by both parties, not easy I would say....
Only my view though....All the best....Les

Hello the only thing about…
Hello the only thing about the Classified section is you cannot make contact with the other party very well and there is no forum to do this and do a bit of haggling and a conflab over your parts you need to get and exchange most of NOC links do not work or go back to an error or insufficient privileges ie, that'sthe big problem so change needs to take place first before this can be made good , yours Anna J

I for one would be interested in such a scheme. it is after all the original method of doing business.
fritz quite rightly points out that there is an exchange scheme in operation but it seems to get very little traffic.Maybe an indication of our insistence on monetary reward? exchanged goods certainly suit my mindset.
Why is it that anything Anna suggests is met with negativity? There is always a way to achieve things,it just needs the momentum.

Hi Anna
Please report any broken links or 'insufficient privileges' notices as we're not presently aware of any? I would suggest you use the website suggestions forum or email us at 'website@nortonownersclub.org'?

Sounds like a good idea, however it would most certainly lead to a substantial los of revenue to the NOC as there would be no money involved for the NOC.
Then we have to consider the stock position. The club could eventually have substantial levels of stock, but much of it unsaleable. The current position is that the club produces or buys stock and then recovers the cost and makes profit for the good of the club.
If people want to swap then the existing facility provides a means to do so at no cost to the club and allows people to exchange mutually sought after parts.

Michael, I see where you are coming from BUT as I see it the club gains its revenue from our subscriptions, enabling the club to have spares made not available and not necessarily commercially viable for the likes of AN, RGM etc. A year or so ago a list was being compiled of parts currently not available. 50's singles are a case in point. I know many pre war Norton bike owners who joined the VMCC because of the lack of support for their machines from the club. I'd like to hear how this poor situation is being improved.
A swap shop is a start, as long as somebody has that elusive part and is willing to part with it!

Hello I only expect this to be done by club members only and honest parts exchanged and Honest descriptions of said parts and photos to and time to check things out between the two said parties and agreement made before any exchange is made only you the membership can make this happen if you want this service, yours AnnaJ Dixon

It is acknowledged that there already exists within the forum a method to exchange etc. The point seems to be that it is rarely used compared to the usual method of selling things.
Based on that maybe it never will work but let us try.I doubt it will result in revenue loss for the club. We all need new and used parts whichever way we choose to do so.
