ES2 Electrics

From pre-war to 1956 the manuals that I have show negative earth, although I don't have one for 1951.  The first emergence of positive earth that I can find is 1957.  Hope this helps.

WRT regulators, they are polarity conscious: some can be changed over, with others you have to buy the right polarity to start with. Modern solid state ones (especially the ones sold by Mr Osborn on here) are pretty reliable although I have successfully reconditioned the old RB108 on my ES2.

Firstly the modern electronic regulator I sell is VERY reliable. All units we sell can be 6V or 12V. The polarity cannot be changed after you purchase it. ie the dynamo can change polarity very easily, the bike (provided there is no real electronics on it ie electronic ignition or an electronic regulator) can work with either polarity, BUt if you change the polarity but do not concern yourself with wiring colours then you WILL get confused in future and you will end up in smoke.

My web site explains this point in detail. By the way Ian I do not know of any electronic regulator that can be changed with regard to its polarity. Mechanical regulator do not care about polarity.

There is some threads on LED bulbs here. I suggest a search on this site. Rear LED no problem. Front no problem to find a fitting one, but most (if not all) have a poor light pattern.
