Reusing bearings

Hi all - I'm looking for input on reusing bearings . I have stripped my Commando gearbox- RHP bearings that I put in 11 years previous seem fine ( bike has stood idle for 7 yrs ) -  my biggest concern is the heat applied to the shell to remove them . Has this effected the bearings in a negative way ?  I would value opinion from others on this subject.

If the aluminium of the casing did not melt, then the steel of the bearing will not be damaged.

This is assuming there is no plastic / rubber seals or ball locators.

Thank you Tony for the reply - no , the aluminum hasn't melted - my fear for the heat /bearing issue was one of drawing out any temper in the steel and thus effecting hardness / longevity - I should have stated that in my original post .

Just to add my 2p worth. I tend to agree with the other comments in general provided that they are clean and run smoothly without any slack and are quiet.

That said you have to add up the costs of re-using the bearings against the cost of major damage should the bearings fail in use.

Personally, for what it would cost for bearings I would replace them with nice new ones just to be on the safe side.

If I was taking RHP bearings out and the layshaft was a roller and they span quietly I would reuse, they are known to be good and too many copies around so the replacements may be not what they seem.

Thanks Gents for all the sound advice - as John Holmes stated it is more the fear of replacement quality than not wanting to spend the money for new . I've gone ahead and ordered a rebuild kit that includes bearings - the ones that I removed spin freely with no play or roughness so I will decide for or against when the new ones arrive . I may be able to use the others in my Dommie gearbox waiting in the queue .
