Hello All,
I nearly put my oil pump om today. When I took it to pieces (bike not pump) it had no oil pump gasket--I presume that this is standard as the oil passed through a rubber sandwiched between pump and timing cover.
I went to use that polymer Suzuki bond cement--oil cam out of the pump and contaminated it (it is very good but has be surgically clean in use). I took it off and did not like how much had got in the holes and thought welseal.
Then I saw people advocating using a gasket (normal to me) but that it was only really made for Commandos. What do people suggest?
Andy--thanks for the advice on the gearbox--I can revolve mine thrust washer and all. splendid.

John's answer sounds the best way to go.
The Maintenance Manual says "when refitting the pump, lightly smear the joint face with jointing compound, particularly avoiding any excess in the region off the oil holes. " They probably had the original red Hermitite in mind. I am pretty sure that I used a gasket last time without any problems but I didn't know about Loctite.
Patrick.

If you use Loctite 515 or 518 which are anaerobic and flange sealants, they only solidify in the joint, any excess that is pressed out stays liquid and dissolves in the oil and removed next oil change. So no globs of solid sealant to block oilways and minimal thickness.
