Hello All It looks to me like the insurance companies have well a truly sown up with the crash categorywhich is not on the side of the customer in Catagory A and B both you end up with NO bike they get crashed in both cases even if it's over 100 years old or the only one made this make No difference categoryC And D these two do not guarantee that your machinewith be fixed and still could be writtenoff and broken up for party only and eitherof these do not cover you completely even if your fully comp or not it all down to the insurance assessor and he will always go for the cheapest option to recover insurance losses, So in sort the insurance people are covering their backs in every event, and the customer loses out in every event, I think the FBHVC should lobby the government has our historicalvehicles are being lost under these insurance laws, the best thing is not to make a claim and fix it your self Yours Anna J

I'm pretty sure that with many classic policies you can agree at the outset that you will always have the original bike back as part of the settlement.

Hello Anna, Are you actual…
Hello Anna,
Are you actually aware what the different categories actually mean?.
Category A means so badly damaged that it cannot be used even for spares and it must be crushed. Usually this refers to total fire damage where it is hazardous to even touch the shell. Certain plastics give off poisonous gases when subjected to extreme heat and must be handled with great care and special protective clothing.
Category B means severely damaged and not repairable but can be broken for spares.
Category C and D means it is not economical to repair but could be repaired.
Most insurance companies give you the option of reclaiming the salvage in Categories C & D and also give you agreed value insurance.
Only licensed breakers are allowed to handle categories A & B.

Anna, they are a business and exist by making money. The best way of looking at insurance is as a legal necessity and also to protect the third party, whose claim against us could cripple the individual financially in the most serious of cases. The only way you find out how good a policy is, is when you come to claim against it and thank goodness I'm not the man to answer that question, at least as far as my bikes are concerned!
As for the FBHVC, do me a favour, they have done zero to help campaign for E0 petrol but instead used their name as an endorsement for costly anti ethanol chemicals to slow down the ill effects of the solvent. Hope you have better luck with their support with insurance.
Anyway, needle starting to stick...
