Hi all knowing ones out there, what year(s) and engine sizes was the Commando fitted with the so-called basket weave seat. I have a 73 850 Interstate currently fitted with a tatty "squares" seat and I want to replace it but I think they were fitted with the basket weave seats at this time. Am I right. Thanks Al

Thanks for the imfo Richard…
Thanks for the imfo Richard. I've had a better look at the V5 and the frame and engine numbers are 313446 which would probably make it a mk 2 850 I believe. According to the V5 it was a Canadian import and the first UK registration date is September 94. There are a lot of old MOTs, receipts for spares etc but frustratingly there are no documents included which show its original build date. What I would have liked to see was a dating certificate from our Records Officers. I guess it should be fitted with the "squares" seatcover as you suggest but I quite like the "basketweave" one as you don't see so many of them these days. Once again, thanks ever so much for the help, regards Alan

According to the brochure illustrations, both the 1973 750 MkVs and the 850 Mk1s had the "basket weave" seat covers. Late 73s could have been Mk2s so the square blocks could be correct too. The big visible difference at the time was that the 73s had silver barrels. Were the carbs and inlet manifolds different too ? All of these are things that could have been changed since...
"Manufactured year" is not always "Model Year though.
