Oil return

I have read somewhere that a modification was made to the return fitting in the oil tank during production of the lightweights, a restrictor to encourage oil up to the cylinder?  It carried over to the heavyweights, or the other way around?

Can anyone enlighten me?

Hello John,

I'll try to answer.

Probably best you do a search on Google for images of Jubilee oil tanks. All will become clear.

Earliest De Luxe lightweights, with a tank under the seat, had an adaptor on the oil return connection. The removable adaptor incorporated a restrictor and a banjo connector for the rocker feed. When John Hudson recommended the use of the more restricted lightweight oil return on heavyweights, to get more oil to the rockers, I believe he was referring to the De Luxe oil return arrangement. This did not change for the life of De Luxe lightweights.

The much more common standard lightweight had a brazed return connector assembly brazed to the tank itself. Restrictor incorporated and no banjo connector, just a stub pipe for the rubber rocker feed pipe. The part number for the std l/w oil tank remained the same 23064, across the range, from inception to the end. Suggesting that the oil return was never modified on standard models.
