Dominator Headlamp Shell

Forums

The rebuild of my 1963 650SS is proceeding and I have purchased a new Atlas/650SS mag/alternator wiring loom from Norvil. I have converted the bike to 12v with a Boyer Powerbox. The new loom has two main sections at the headlamp end one with the base of the 88SA switch already wired in and the other with connections for the ammeter etc. This second section has a rubber grommet on it. The lighting switch section does not. My headlamp shell has a single large hole in the bottom and I could not work out how to get both of the loom sections into the shell through the attached grommet that only has a single hole. The old wiring loom that I removed many years ago only has a single headlamp section and from memory I thought that the wiring loom, speedo cable and trip reset all went through a single grommet which had 3 holes in it. I contacted Les Emery at Norvil with some pictures and he has told me that my shell is not from a 650SS which should have 3 holes in the base. I have had the bike since 1971. It's frame no is 18/106554 which I think identifies it as a 650SS. The crankcase has been replaced so I don't have matching numbers. The bike had been modified prior to me buying it in 1971 with a conversion to coil and distributor ignition and maybe the headlamp shell was also replaced to facilitate the use of a combined 88SA lighting/ignition switch rather than the simpler lighting only setup of a magneto model. I have refitted a mag as part of the rebuild.

Does anybody recognise my shell and the model from which it came. I am not sure if it can be modified to fit the new wiring loom or do I have to go with a 3 hole version?

I have attached pictures of the wiring loom, my shell and a 650 SS shell for comparison
