I have just bought a couple of camshafts.
One I don't recognise and was wondering if any could enlighten me.
Its missing the casting number T2219 that is cast in on most dominator cams. It dose however carry a stamping QR for quieting ramps.

How many keyways does it…
How many keyways does it have Paul ? The inlets look quite racy to me. If you measure the base circle diameter and the largest reading of the highest point on each lobe and subtract that lobe's base circle you will get an approximate lift figure that you can look up in one of the technical tables on the Website. Somerton made some of the early sports/race cams for aftermarket dealers like Dunstall. Good luck, Howard

I don't intend using it just interested in its form. Seems to me to be capable of holding the valves open for a long time. I agree with you its been built up from a standard cam. So it's a special of some sort. It looks nothing like anything on the atlantic green web site.
One keyway in the same position roughly as standard m7, QR, and SS, cam.
Lifts Ex 0.345 In 0.369. My cam SS is 0.330. All cams.
Anyway thanks for the pointers. I will put in the do not resuscitate box.

The QR camshaft first appeared in the Norton Nomad engines beginning 1958. They were subsequently fitted to the Dominator range until 1960 being the forerunner of the 650 engine SS camshaft. There being very little difference in dimensions between the two camshafts but enough, when combined with the SS cylinder head and flat footed followers to boost the power output by a significant amount.
Photos 2,3 & 4 give the impression of a camshaft that has been re-profiled. The lobe heads have very wide heads which remind me of the Commando 2S camshaft profiles.
